Letter From Membership Vice President
Hello Potential Sisters!
My name is Ally Douglass, and I am the Membership Vice President for the Gamma Zeta Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta here at Eastern Michigan University. Structured recruitment - my favorite time of the year - is rapidly approaching! If you’ve ever thought about joining Greek Life (or even if you haven’t), I HIGHLY encourage you to sign up for recruitment! By simply attending each day, you will have an opportunity to learn more about what Greek Life is all about at EMU: who we are, what we stand for, and how being involved in it can shape the rest of your college days and beyond. During structured recruitment, you will have the chance to visit all eight chapters that form the College Panhellenic Council on campus, and meet the amazing women that make up each of them. Going through recruitment does not mean you are required to make a commitment to join Greek Life. If by the end of the experience you feel that Greek Life is not the best fit for you, that’s okay! We simply invite you to take a few days and learn all about what Greek Life has to offer.
When I first came to college, I never thought I would join Greek Life. My roommate had known she wanted to go Greek since senior year and basically dragged me to recruitment. Even through recruitment, I still wasn’t convinced... until I walked into the last room on day one of recruitment. From the first second I walked into Alpha Xi Delta’s room, I knew I was home. These were the women I wanted to be when I grew up, these were the women that I knew would inspire and encourage me, but most of all these were the women that would become my best friends. Running home to my new sisters on Bid Day gave me a feeling of belonging and acceptance that I had been searching for.
Since joining Greek Life, I have been incredibly passionate about helping other women find their home. Watching women fall in love with all Greek Life has to offer reminds all of us why we ran home to the chapter we did. Being able to observe the love that women share for their chapters and for each other is a daily reminder that the Greek community can truly be your home away from home.
By going Greek, you will experience many leadership and service opportunities, find motivation to be your best self in scholarship and in character, and create memories that will truly last a lifetime. As cliché as it sounds, it’s so true: Greek Life really isn’t just four years….it’s for life. The women of Alpha Xi Delta hope that you find your perfect home during recruitment, just as we did! No matter where you run home to, we hope that you find a sisterhood as wonderful as the one we have found in each other.
If you have any questions regarding Alpha Xi Delta or Greek life in general, please don’t hesitate to contact me at adougla9@emich.edu or at 616-389-9716. We hope to see you in the fall!
XOXi,
Ally Douglass
